Our Commitment
FamDash is built for families. Your family's data belongs to your family — not to advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else. We collect only what's needed to make the app work, and nothing more.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. Period.
What We Collect
FamDash collects the following information to provide its core features:
- Name — your first name, displayed to family members on your card and within shared lists, to-do's, reminders, and celebrations.
- Family name — the household name visible to all members of your family group.
- Location data — your device's GPS coordinates, used to show family members your approximate location and calculate distances. Location is shared only with members of your family group.
- Device token — a push notification token used to deliver alerts for shopping lists, celebrations, reminders, and to-do's. This is not used for advertising.
- App-generated content — shopping lists, to-do items, reminders, and celebrations you create within the app.
Location Data
Location is a core feature of FamDash. Here's how it works:
- Your location is shared only with members of your family group — the people who joined using your household's 6-digit code.
- Location data is stored in Firebase (Google Cloud) and is associated with your family's private household.
- You can disable location sharing at any time in Settings → Home Screen → Location Sharing.
- We do not track your location history over time. Only your most recent location is stored.
- Location data is not shared with any third parties.
Your location is visible only to your family members. Nobody else — including us — monitors where you are.
How We Store Your Data
All data is stored securely using Google Firebase, which provides enterprise-grade security including encryption in transit and at rest.
- Shared data (family to-do's, shopping lists, reminders, celebrations, family member locations) is stored in Firebase Firestore, scoped to your household.
- Personal data (personal to-do's and reminders) is stored locally on your device using SwiftData and is never uploaded to any server.
- Push notifications are delivered through Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service (APNs).
Children's Privacy
FamDash is designed to be used by families, including children as part of a family group managed by a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.
Family groups are created and managed by an admin (typically a parent). Members join only by entering a 6-digit code provided by the admin. The admin has the ability to remove any member at any time.
Data Deletion
You have full control over your data:
- Leave a family — your data is removed from that household.
- Delete your family — the admin can delete the entire household, which removes all shared data including lists, reminders, celebrations, and member information.
- Completed items are automatically deleted after a configurable number of days (set in Settings).
- To request complete deletion of your data, contact us at the email below.
Third-Party Services
FamDash uses the following third-party services:
- Firebase by Google — for authentication, data storage, push notifications, and cloud functions. Firebase Privacy Policy
- Apple Push Notification service — for delivering notifications to your device. Apple Privacy Policy
- Apple Maps / Google Maps — for driving directions when you tap the directions icon. Your preference is stored locally on your device.
Changes & Contact
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
