Our Commitment

FamDash is built for families. Your family's data belongs to your family — not to advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else. We collect only what's needed to make the app work, and nothing more.

What We Collect

FamDash collects the following information to provide its core features:

• Name — your first name, displayed to family members on your card and within shared lists, to-do's, reminders, and celebrations.
• Family name — the household name visible to all members of your family group.
• Location data — your device's GPS coordinates, used to show family members your approximate location, calculate distances, and detect arrivals and departures from places you've defined.
• Location history — recent stops your device has been at, used to show family members where you've been today, this week, and within the last 30 days. Visible only to members of your family group.
• Geofence data — custom zones (with names, coordinates, and radii) that you define for places like home, school, or work, used to trigger arrival and departure notifications. Stored within your family's private household.
• Motion activity — your device's motion state (walking, driving, or stationary), used solely to optimize battery life by reducing GPS precision when you're not moving. Motion data is processed on your device and is never stored or transmitted to any server.
• Device token — a push notification token used to deliver alerts for shopping lists, celebrations, reminders, to-do's, and geofence events. This is not used for advertising.
• App-generated content — shopping lists, to-do items, reminders, celebrations, and geofences you create within the app.

Location Data

Location is a core feature of FamDash. Here's how it works:

• Your location is shared only with members of your family group — the people who joined using your household's invite code.
• Location data is stored in Firebase (Google Cloud) and is associated with your family's private household.
• You can disable location sharing at any time in Settings → Data & Privacy → Location Sharing.
• Location history (where you've been over time) is stored within your family's household, visible only to family members. History is automatically pruned after 30 days.
• Always-On Tracking is an optional setting in Settings → Data & Privacy. It is off by default. When enabled, FamDash uses more precise GPS updates and your device's motion sensor to optimize battery — tracking precisely when you're moving and resting when you're still.
• Geofences (custom zones for places like home, school, or work) are defined by you and used only to trigger notifications to family members you choose. Geofence data is stored within your family's household.
• Location data is not shared with any third parties.

Motion & Battery Optimization

FamDash uses your device's motion sensor (Apple's CoreMotion framework) for one purpose only: to make Always-On Tracking gentle on your battery.

• Motion activity (walking, driving, stationary) is read on your device only and used to decide when to track precisely versus when to rest.
• Motion data is never stored, never transmitted, and never visible to your family members or to us.
• You can revoke Motion access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Motion & Fitness → FamDash.

How We Store Your Data

All data is stored securely using Google Firebase, which provides enterprise-grade security including encryption in transit and at rest.

• Shared data (family to-do's, shopping lists, reminders, celebrations, family member locations, location history, and geofences) is stored in Firebase Firestore, scoped to your household.
• Personal data (personal to-do's and reminders) is stored locally on your device using SwiftData and is never uploaded to any server.
• Motion activity is processed on your device by Apple's CoreMotion framework and is never stored or transmitted to any server.
• Push notifications are delivered through Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service (APNs).

Children's Privacy

FamDash is designed to be used by families, including children as part of a family group managed by a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.

Family groups are created and managed by an admin (typically a parent). Members join only by entering an invite code provided by the admin, and the admin must approve each join request. The admin has the ability to remove any member at any time.

Data Deletion

You have full control over your data:

• Leave a family — your data is removed from that household.
• Delete your family — the admin can delete the entire household, which removes all shared data including lists, reminders, celebrations, geofences, location history, and member information.
• Completed items are automatically deleted after a configurable number of days (set in Settings).
• Location history is automatically pruned after 30 days.
• To request complete deletion of your data, contact us at the email below.

Third-Party Services

FamDash uses the following third-party services:

• Firebase by Google — for authentication, data storage, push notifications, and cloud functions. Firebase Privacy Policy
• Apple Push Notification service — for delivering notifications to your device. Apple Privacy Policy
• Apple Maps / Google Maps — for driving directions when you tap the directions icon. Your preference is stored locally on your device.

Changes & Contact

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
